Milestones in our School Year
The Curriculum of a Steiner School is closely geared to the developmental stages of the child. The teachers take the initiative to shape the subject matter to suit the experience, abilities and individual qualities of their particular class. The skill and challenge of the teacher is to make all subjects come alive.
The rhythm of the year is marked by the celebration of festivals. The way in which festivals are celebrated varies from year to year, but often classes come together in festival assemblies, where musical contributions or plays, are presented.
Parents are often encouraged to attend and are always welcome at the end of term festivals, held on the last morning of each term.
Details of assemblies and many other cultural events taking place during the school year are publicised through the Weekly Newsletter.
In addition to festivals, day outings to places of special interest are used to augment the learning process, and are usually organised for each class and arranged by the Class Teacher. Class trips, from Class 3 or 4 upwards, go further afield, and usually involve at least one overnight stay.
Highlights of the year, to which all parents are welcome, include the Advent Garden and the Midsummer outing. The first is a calm and beautiful occasion on the first Tuesday morning of Advent. The second is usually a visit to the Camphill Estate at Blair Drummond, around the 24th of June, at which games, seasonal singing around a huge campfire, and sports events are enjoyed by all.
